Ravens Start With A Win

The sun was shining for Ravens first game at their new home ground, M&B’s.

Their opponents for this friendly game were Canvey II, instead of the planned league finale against Writtle, who were unable to field a team.

Both teams opted for for a mix of youth and experience, and there were a few big old units on the pitch, that took some stopping. Ravens started quickly and and were soon in front.

By the end of the first half Ravens had scored three converted tries to one in response from Canvey.

The second half was a slightly more tense affair, with both defences upping their game, and there were quite a few turnovers.

The momentum swung back and forth, and after a disallowed try for Canvey, the visitors scored next, to close the gap to 21-14.

But Ravens rallied, and after a sustained period of pressure, scored the final try, and closed out the game.

After the game, both teams retired to the clubhouse for a well earned drink and some food, and the Stockdale bar was packed.

The post match social continued until much later in the evening, and we guess there might be a few sore heads on Sunday morning.
